He had warned her about the book. Now it was too late. There I was, sitting on the bed with a monster trying to kill me. I bet you are wondering how this happened. Well, it all started when I discovered Mr. Lenden’s Library.
It was a warm, summer morning in Kansas and I decided to take a walk across town. I got dressed and went down the stairs to tell mom I was going for a walk. She then told me to be safe, as always, like I’m really going to jump in front of a moving car. I went outside and headed to the mall. On the way I met Billy, my friend from school.
He waved and said, “Hi Katrina. How are you today?”
“I’m fine. How are you?” I said.
I continued walking to the mall when I noticed a strange looking alley that I had never seen before. I peered into it and saw a door with a sign that read, Mr. Lenden’s Library. I was curious and decided to go in. That’s when I met Mr. Lenden. He was a tall and wiry man with a handlebar mustache and brown hair.
He asked what my name was and I said, “My name is Katrina, and I’m guessing you’re Mr. Lenden.”
He answered, “Indeed I am. Would you like to look around my library?”
“I would love to.” I replied.
So I looked around and saw a book called Bad Luck. It looked like it could be good. I took it to Mr. Lenden so I could check it out. When he saw what book I was holding, he looked very worried. He said the book was cursed. I told him that everything was going to be fine, but he didn’t look convinced. I checked it out anyway and took it home with me.
When I got home, I read it. It was really weird. The person in the book kept having bad things happen to her. Even weirder, the person in the book looked exactly like me! In the following few days stuff in the book started happening to me, such as falling into a lot of mud and other things like that. Then I started believing that the book really was cursed!
I remembered that the girl gets attacked by a monster after other happenings. I jumped onto my bed and threw the book on the floor like it was red hot. Suddenly the book started sprouting vines which tangled together to make a weird monster. It had fangs, which dripped acid which melted the floor and had claws the size of an adult’s hand and as sharp as daggers. It also had scarlet catlike eyes. I read in the book that you need something to cut the vines and destroy the monster. Now I can tell you how I defeated the monster. I remembered that my mom had a knife. I could use it to cut the monster in half, but the knife was downstairs and the monster was blocking the door. I needed a distraction. I picked up a toy and threw it at the monster. It was dazed for a second, so I went downstairs and got the knife. Then I ran upstairs again and cut the monster into big chunks. After that, the vines disintegrated and I returned the book. After that, I never returned to Mr. Lenden’s Library.

Davis,
Your story is very well written. Have you seen the movie The Never-ending Story? Your story reminded me of that. I really enjoyed the humor and details.
Although I have checked out books from the library that scared me, I’ve never had one attack me! I’ll be careful of what I check out in the future. Thanks for the great story.
Good job Davis, hope ya keep writin’.
